Davon Holmes 10/10/2012 Sociology China China is the world’s most populated country with the population of 1.3 billion people. Since there were so many people in China they had to think about a way to control population so this is where the one-child policy was made. It officially restricts married, urban couples to having only one child, while allowing exemptions for several cases, including twins. This policy was introduced in 1978 and initially applied to first-born children from 1979. The policy is enforced at the local level through fines that are imposed based on the income of the family and other factors. China had three major eras in their history Ancient China, Imperial China, and Modern China. The period; however, was marked by one major accomplishment, the widespread development of printing. From the year 960 AD-1234AD The Song, Liao, Jin, and Western Xia Dynasties ruled China. The song dynasty gaining power over most of china, The Khitan Liao Dynasty ruled over Manchuria while the Liao dynasty was annihilated by the Jurchen Jin Dynasty. During this time the Western Xia Dynasty was formed by Tangut tribes. With all of the different dynasties going on during this time period the song dynasty was the most memorable being considered as China’s high point in science and technology. Kublai Khan wanting to adopt the customs of China established the Yuan Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty also made great achievements in culture and science, particularly in astronomy. One major thing to happen during this dynasty was the Black Plague; it was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history. The Ming Dynasty followed. Urbanization increased as the population grew and as the division of labor grew more complex. The Ming Dynasty was either found by Zhu Yuanzhang or Hong-wu.
